Fresh details from new Call Of Duty game: World at War

June 9th, 2008 · No Comments

There is no doubt that COD4 has turned out to be one of the successes for the PS3. The game has won several awards for its brilliant gameplay and its detailed and compelling multiplayer mode. The next game in the series however, once again takes place in WWII and it is uncertain whether gamers will want to prise themselves away from COD4, since the previous games had already adopted the WWII approach.

The game is being developed by Treyarch who were the brains behind COD3, and reports suggest that it will use the same game engine that was used for COD4. A few details have also emerged on the type of gameplay that we will expect to see, as the game takes place in the pacific as gamers are thrown into battle featuring the US Japanese, Russian and German armies respectively.

Multiplayer perks are also featured in this game, there are going to be familiar perks seen in COD4, but also new perks which will adapt better with the new environments and new weapons such as the Flamethrower have also been announced.

It will be interesting to see if this game can compete with the hugely successful COD4: Modern Warfare, Considering that the developers from that game, Infinity Ward will have no input to the new title. Personally I thought that the franchise would progress in time periods, I did not expect the game to return to its World War roots, but the new developers insist that the game will be one of the best they have made, and state they have had 2 years of development time to make, unlike 11 months for their previous effort in COD3.

What are your initial reactions on the decision to return to the World War era? I expected the game to progress on Modern Warfare to lead into some sort of futuristic approach perhaps, it will be interesting to find out the views of gamers who are playing Modern Warfare, and their opinions on this development.
