New details have emerged on the upcoming ps3 exclusive Resistance 2. A new video on Game Trailers gave us a chance to see how the game is shaping up, and a preview of some of the game’s new features were revealed after a lengthy discussion with Insomniac’s president Ted Price.
The game’s single player mode is set directly after events from the first game, and it once again places you in the role of Nathan Hale as he attempts to battle against the Chimeran invasion. The video gave us a first glimpse of some gameplay from the single player mode, with Ted price indicating that while the game will focus on Hale, but also his issues surrounding his mental state after being infected with the virus.
One of the main settings for the game will be 1950’s Chicago as Hale returns there to find it has been invaded by the enemy forces. Also seen in the video, is a new type of enemy currently known as ‘grems’ which are a half converted man / chimera. The footage of these new beasts are looking quite exciting as they literally surround Hale in swarms, jumping out of the window and charging towards you.
A successful point of the original title was the games co-op mode, but the sequel aims to go one better as they deliver an 8 man co-op campaign with its own unique story mode which is different compared to the single player mode. Little details were released on this new mode, but the ability to play online in a story mode with up to 8 friends sounds very appetising indeed.
The games multiplayer mode has also been significantly upgraded as the developers state they have managed to create a 60 man online mode! Ted Price stated that within this mode, you would be placed in a squadron with certain objectives to complete, such as capture a certain point of the map. He also stated that new environments were created solely for the multiplayer experience as 60 people on a map would obviously require a lot of planning. He went on to explain that certain elements will be put into place to make sure the multiplayer wasn’t too crowded at one point, and that the tasks within the mode will help to balance out the game, rather than just have a straight out 60 man deathmatch. The footage certainly looks awesome as the idea of taking part in a 60 man online mode on a console will certainly appeal to gamers.
Below is a small teaser of the game which gives details on some of the locations features but for the full video and gameplay footage check out Game Trailers for the full interview with the developers. With the game due to be released this year, it is already shaping to be one of the highlights for the ps3 so stay tuned for more developments.
