Call this weird or not, but a few friends have contacted me saying that they turned on their Playstation 3 to download the latest PS3 2.40 Firmware update which they say is not there at all. It seems Sony has pulled 2.40 due to many problems; the new release of the new firmware update has indeed caused some troubles with gamers once they downloaded the update.
It seems that 2.40 has gone and they have reverted back to firmware 2.36 as the most recent available version, my friends were disappointed as they wanted this new update, but I eased their minds. I said to them that this is just temporary and we will see a much better and hopefully better working update. We here at PS3 Daily will keep you updated on this matter. We have heard through the grapevine that SCEA are looking into the matter.
Please let us know if you have come across this also.

yeah i have noticed this as well as i wanted to download the new update on the 2nd july but it wasn’t there and said i have the recent update i thought this was all to weired as it was slated for release on 2nd july, well i done some digging aroung and found out that due to a small percentage of PS3 users with affected hard drives(i state affected hard drive almost everyone would probably have a affected hard drive unless its brand new) were having problems with the new update such as it wasnt booting up after the update restart meaning not getting past the wave screen and freezing leaving it unbootable, resulting in having to format the hard drive losing everything well thats got to be a bit better then sending it to sony and getting it repaired for £150 but as this is sonys fault im sure they will work something out. It also caused a few minor problems for the more lucky user (more rumors if you ask me) like not have a lasting conection on the microphone and other issues like slight over heating. Put it this way i would consider yourself lucky that this got pulled after an hour of being up as losing everything you have done and all the downloads pics and vids would really tick me off but as sony is aware of this and informed all there call centres and are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before they put the firmware back up so all we can do is watch this space and hope its not a long wait any questions please ask.

at the moment even sony does not even know when it will be up and running as try to isolate a problem like that will take some time as they are figuring what caused it and how to save the affected playstations so i would only asume it will be up and running not later then the end of the month if i or any one else finds out any thing you will be the first to know

I spoke with the SOny Care centre as mine was one of the machines that went ballistic and won’t let me play any games apart from demo’s I have already downloaded. (Whoopee!). They are sending me a replacement machine free of charge, but this will take 2 weeks, but I have been told to keep trying the new updates as theese may fix it (2.41 didn’t)
