Is Metal Gear Solid 4 sole reason for Sony PS3 sales success?

Many people are talking about the sales of the Sony PS3 and that sales have boosted because of the major success of the exclusive Playstaion 3 game Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

The sales of the console boosted through the month of June, this goes to prove that Sony PS3 exclusives are a must for future sales of the gaming console.

If there are exclusive games many gamers will buy the PS3 console just for these games, like upon the release of MGS4 Sony released a sales bundle which was just for that game, this followed the man himself, oh yes Snake on his epic adventure.

This exclusive game sold 450,000 units in Japan in its first seven days plus sold a staggering 1 million in Europe in its first seven days.

In the U.S MGS4 sold over 750,000 units June, now seeing as Sony sold 405,500 PS3 consoles in June surely MGS4 had something to do with this. Oh just so you know that is more than double the sales of the Xbox 360, game on Sony.

Do you think Metal Gear Solid 4 is the sole reason in PS3 console sales recently?

“The sales of the console boosted through the month of June, this goes to prove that Sony PS3 exclusives are a must for future sales of the gaming console.”

Well, no, it proves that June was a popular time to buy a console.

Also out in June was “Overlord: Raising Hell”, “Singstar Volume 2″, “The Incredible Hulk”, “Battlefield: Bad Company”, “Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Conspiracy”, “Guitar Hero Aerosmith Bundle”, “Kung Fu Panda”, and “NASCAR 09″ (well, OK, maybe we’ll ignore this one).

Let’s hope the future of online gaming is not based on the current state of “Metal Gear Online”.

Well, 80Gb PS3 was available again in June, so no, MGS4 was not the sole reason for PS3 sales boost. It was one of the reasons though.

I am still in awe of Metal Gear Solid 4.I think that sony did the right thing by combining this game with the PS3.

MGS4 Was an awesome game, and its done well for sony, but i have all three consoles and can honestly say that this game would have easily sold 5 times more on the 360 (apart from japan). All my friends on xbox live have played mine and loved it, but they’re not bothered about the ps3. i think konami has made a mistake, but well done sony for keeping hold of it.

I think that many people just dont wanna wait and see if this title does go multi platform, its like when the 360 launched ahead of scheduel, wasnt like people said… naah i got a sock collection i got to sort out.. they want to be entertained and they want it NOW! Facts. If the PS3 was the 1st to launch they would of made a killing but they didnt did they? and that was they’re downfall.

If they released MGS 4 on 360 and then later on PS3 ,or heck both simontaniously we would of known where the loyalty lay.. thats where PS3 took out a back hand full of cash and said “whose your daddy?”

But i see that Sony is going as far as giving upto 4 game bundles just to get the things off the shelves. So that could also be a reason

I think that it moved units yes, however I think Sony needs to release about 20 spontaneous AAA First Party Titles in order to sell enough to really have it be useful to them. A price cut is a better way to go about things.
