I’ve noticed that when it’s loading your friends list it doens’t give you the ffff error when you try to see a profile of a unloaded friend’s profile.

I had to return my ps3 last week because firmware update 2.41 completely bricked my system. When I called to complain, they took no responsibility. I went online and found that since update 2.40, 2.41 and now 2.42 was released, People all over the world have had their ps3’s crash. In my opinion they are coming out with firmware updates to fast. How can they have enough time to test them. Apparantly, they don’t and now hundreds if not thousands of people are forced to send their ps3’s in for repairs. FYI if you’re out of warranty you’ll have to pay $149 AND with or without a warranty they will not send you back your origninal ps3,they will give you a refurb. I am so fed up with Sony. I have filed a complaint to the Better Buisness Bureau and suggest everyone do this or sony will never take resonsiblity and will contiune to charge people for repairs that their system update resulted in.

I got firmware 2.42 and I was unexpectant of what it would do to my ps3. It did something to my BD drive, and now I can play no form of disk. Its sad because the game it shut me off during was Soul Calibur 4. I just got it today. It stopped working while I was creating a character… sux 4 me… The internet apparently work being that I’m typing on my ps3, demos and all downloadable content are functional, music can still be played, photos can still be viewed… themes can be changed… the only problem is th BD drive being unusable. I’m pretty sure that my dad didn’t get a warranty so I’m relying on either he did buy a warranty so I can exchange this thing… or that firmware 2.43 is a miracle worker.

Oh I forgot write. Mys PS3’s error code 80010514 (laser lens failure) was fixed. I bought a brand new from EBAY.COM and replaced by myself. It´s so easy to do. If you´re gonna do this, do a previous videos research in YOUTUBE.COM.

I do not know if it is related, but since the update, whenever I will be playing a game a press the ‘PS’ button, the XMB will come up, but instead of the icons, there are only spinning arrows, and the icons never appear.

Also, whenever I try to exit a game by pressing ‘PS’, the screen goes black, and the PS3 freezes.

That’s just what happened to me.

I had the same problem with my 40gb PS3 after installing update 2.41.My drive failed to recognise any type of disc whether it be dvd,cd or blu ray.I phoned up sony technical support and ran through some diagnostics.I had to try all types of disc (all the above) and check in the top right hand corner of the screen for the little rain drop type looking thing to show that the drive was still spinning up.If your drive is still spinning up then the likely hood is that your laser has gone. Not sure how many lasers it has or whether it it the case of a diode blowing rendering all lasers useless but sony did repair it under warranty luckely for me.This how ever does seem to be an inherant problem of the PS3 and possibly a design flaw looking at how many units have failed in the past 6 months. The problem with this and with a lot of peoples is that this seems to fail at the end of your warranty period, i guess if you play it loads you may be lucky and have it fail within 5/6 months.I know for me though it has put a severe dent in my trust that i hold in the unit now and just waiting for it to die again if they replaced with the same component (probally the cheapest they could get there hands on) which is likely to fail again.I have no complaints with sony’s actions towards me as they did cover mine outside warranty (3 weeks) but made to fight for it guess my only advice would be if the firmware update aint needed then “DONT DO IT”.

Just a slight adittion to my previous post………Not sure how much truth is in it but never turn the unit off at the rear of the unit without first resetting the cd/dvd/BR drive. This can be done by holding down the eject button for a set amount of seconds(14 i believe).I have done research into this whole pS3 thing as i was going to push for a full refund on something being sold which was not fit for purpose.

Clean the lens with Alchohal Qtip. I do it once every couple of months. Blue ray optical drive is very sensitive. In my case it would only play CDs but not dvds or Blue ray. If your warranty is up open ps3 up and clean the lens. Simple fix!!
