Dustin Waller’s Stolen PS3: Xbox 360 as compensation

August 11th, 2008 · 8 Comments

Poor Dustin Waller is what we would call a lucky man and an unlucky man all in the same breath, Waller’s fiancée decided to buy him a Sony PS3 gaming console at a Cleveland games retailer, the games console was second hand but she bought it anyway.

The downside to her loving gesture was the fact the used PS3 she bought was stolen, police turned up at Waller’s door and they asked how he came across the gaming console, not looking good is it Dustin?

The police tracked the console down thanks to Waller turning on the system, the original owner of this stolen PS3 PSN ID was still stored on the system, and the console was set to auto-login when the PS3 was turned on. The police tracked Waller’s IP Address and this is how the police found the stolen gaming console.

Of course poor Dustin Waller is innocent, but he still had the machine taken off him. Not all bad news though as Waller was offered compensation from the games shop, his compensation was a Microsoft Xbox 360.

Now the funny bit: Waller was happy that the shop offered him compensation but basically turned it down saying that the Xbox 360 is no where near as expensive nor sophisticated as the Sony PS3.

Come on you got to love that Dustin Waller has a brain.

I do not want a stinky Xbox 360, get that thing away from me. Yuck !

If my 360 was stolen I sure as hell wouldn’t want a PS3 as compensation.

What a shiesty game store. First they sell you a stolen ps3 then when that deal goes sour they try to rplace it with a cheaper system?! I would report them to the BBB. They should give him a brand new PS3 with a bunch of accessories and games to make up for the police questioning.

dan: there is nothing the person can do. First of all he has already forgotten about the game system. What he should do is ask the police to parole the place. The BBB is probably full of complaints with more important things to do because this is probably an isolated incident.

@Dave: Don’t worry, no one would ever offer you a PS3 to compensate for a 360.

@brian: Thanks for speaking on behalf of the BBB. Who are you again?

    Dustin’s a genious with a loving wife.

this stinks of urban myth to me.

i’m sure the police would waste all that time and manpower just to track down a console, you get your house broken into and car stolen and they couldn’t care less here!!

and if Dustin Waller is so innocent why is he using another persons PSN id instead of just deleting it? and as for not accepting the 360, that’s just stupid as even if he didn’t want it he could have resold it.

a quick search reveals no actual FACTS relating to this case.

Sounds like a load of bullshit to me. If i had stolen a ps3 i’d keep it not sell it and giving him a 360 instead of a new ps3 is just as credable as me going to the 360 which won’t happen ever.

    @mobiletone
“and the console was set to auto-login ”
He wasn’t using another persons PSN id, it automatically logged on, but then again, how did it automatically get online?
