PS3 Update: PlayStation Home beta invitations, check your emails

August 15th, 2008 · 16 Comments

Just so everyone should know those who are new members of the expanded beta for the PlayStation Home will be added. All those In Europe will or may have received emails letting you know about the acceptance into the new beta. Those in America who are members of the beta will be receiving download codes pretty soon as well.

Oh just so you know, you should check your spam emails as well as they go there sometimes, anyway this is what the email will say.

Dear,

PlayStation®Home is a 3D, interactive, evolving service, exclusive to PLAYSTATION®3. It’s free to download and easy to use. Home is the place to be if you want to deepen your gaming experience - the place where you can meet, chat, plan, and launch games together. Also, you can fully customise your avatar, decorate your own Home apartment, play mini-games, watch videos, take part in events, and much more - it’s all part of the Home experience.

We’ve chosen to offer access to Home to a select number of PLAYSTATION®3 owners, and as a valued member of PLAYSTATION®Network, you have been selected to be amongst the first to try this exciting new service.

To take part, and play an important role in helping us evolve and grow the service over the coming months, please redeem your unique promotional code below using your PLAYSTATION®3 and join us in Home.

How to redeem your Promotional code and access Home

To redeem the code connect to PLAYSTATION®Network, select [Account Management], then select [Transaction Management], click on [Redeem PLAYSTATION Network Card or Promotion Code] and enter your unique code:

Home will download to [Games]. Install the software and the Home icon will appear in [Games]. Click this icon to enter Home!

Note: Promotional codes can only be used once and only the PSN Online ID we sent this email to will be able to connect to Home.

Please remember that Home is currently in a restricted testing phase, which means that we’ll be constantly adding new features and content, and testing the service, over the coming months. As part of your participation, we’ll also occasionally ask you about your experiences, and gather feedback, so we can continually improve the service.

Also please understand that this is a closed and confidential beta and your participation is subject to our Terms of Use which will be presented to you the first time you connect to Home. Please keep all discussion of your experiences within Home confidential and limit them to our private Home Beta Forum.

If you are an existing user of our forums you will find the forum in the Private section within the next few days. Please note this process is subject to network availability so delays may be experienced. If you have not logged into our forums before you will need to do so using your PSN account and then visit one public forum. This will establish your PSN account on the forums. Please allow up to 72 hours from this point for us to give your account permission to visit the private forum. We will not write to you again; just visit the forums a few days later.

Welcome to PlayStation®Home.

Yours,
Dan Hill

europe? I went on psn for the wallpaper and it wasn’t there so i just presumed it was just for Americans and Japanese again. Anyone know how Europeans sign up?

I have been unable to find it on EU PSN Store either Jake, has anyone in the EU? Been looking daily for months as I missed the beta test for a few things and I’m daily for at least a few hours so should be an ideal candidate

You don’t need to download the home wallpaper, it’s meant to be based on PSN activity but it appears to be random. There’s been 2 batches sent out so far so have another look.

Typical after checking for the Theme all week I get an invite last night. Played around with Home last night. Pretty positive experience although it looks like they still have some rough edges.

I’m all registered with the Sony PS3 websites. Which I assume is how they picked me. Nothing to do with downloading a Home Theme.

It was only for the US via the wallpaper…EU beta testers are selected by the amount they have used the PSN and how much they are online. Presumably because the more you use both of these services the more you will use Home. No point asking someone who never goes online to test an online service ay?

“EU beta testers are selected by the amount they have used the PSN and how much they are online”
Which is a stupid way to choose beta testers because, I was on the PSN etc for pretty much the whole first year I owned my ps3, downloading everything and anything. Ive pretty much stopped alltogether at the moment because of the lack of content (that i’m interested in).
Make it totally random to make it totally fair. I cant wait for HOME but there’s no real conection between that and the amount of time i spend on (in) the PSN.

Im really sad about the home beta tests as i really wanted to become a beta tester.
i wonder when the actual version comes out??
    does anyone know??
i also heard the ‘Life With Playstation’ was about to come out at the end of the month.
    i cant wait for it.

Open beta which I heard is pretty much the full deal comes out november. And the full version is to be announced.

    @PJ
It’s not about being fair, it’s about Sony testing the service and the best way to do that is by selecting the people that use the existing service most. I, like you don’t download all that much from PSN and doesn’t look like i’ve been selected. If i had then i’m sure i’d use Home all the time but hey ho shall have to wait…

its not linked to down loading the theme in the EU store its just random selection.

Any how im in and its great im running awound talking to people watching trailers without any shoes on ha ha ha. Its good to be HOME.

  • 11 Rob // Aug 19, 2008 at 3:20 pm

Sony have said it’s not random, you can check on EU Sony forums…I’m am jealous though, does it live up to your expectations?

  • 12 luke // Aug 22, 2008 at 2:17 am

Well i dont know how they do the selection (just one of those guys that never get an luckLOL),
but know i have put in some serious hours on psn with no selection, bummer but i think now it will just be more fun when full version comes out.

    Its a joke.
I own every game on PSN and all my time is spent on CoD4. Yet I still didn’t get chosen for beta testing, just my luck!
