Just so everyone knows there is a brand new update, the PS3 firmware update v2.43 is not like other updates because this one is specifically for Japan.
PS3 users in Japan will be required to install the new PS3 Firmware Update 2.43, PS3 gamers in all other regions will not be asked to download the new update.
Get this though, does not matter what region you are from, you can manually initiate a firmware update by clicking on “System Update” under the XMB’s Settings icon, you will then see the v2.43 update. Personally if you are outside Japan we would say there is no need to perform an update especially if your system is already on v2.41 or later.

format ur drive (create a partition) of fat32 by right clicking on computer in start menu go down 2 disk managment right click the hdd (external) new simple volume run trew d crap it will den format to the size of ur choice copy nd paste all ur films wich u probobly download using utorrent!and ur done!
***the only reason ur ps3 cant read ur external hdds films is because its ntfs ps3 does not support dat (yet plz god!)

Scott, you’re right, its a game machine, not a “you can rip and play anything” machine.
They obviously put the FAT32 file system to prevent piracy.

I was just prompted to install 2.43 on my PS3 so I did. Now the machine will not play any discs at all. Games or movies.
I am not in Japan.

I updated with this 2.43 on my new PS3 that was sent from SONY after my dead PS3. Nothing was working. Games on the hard drive did not play and none of the Blu-ray games were playing or even showing up. I turned my PS3 on and off several times. For my last try I moved the PS3 and restarted it… It then began to work. Not one problem since…

I updated my PS3 to 2.43 and now I can’t play any disks at all. Wondered if anyone had any suggestions. I’ve tried to format and still the same. My machine is out of warranty and I’m worried about a hefty repair bill!!!!

Received my PS3 back from repair after it lost the ability to play discs after I installed 2.43. It came back from repair with 2.42 installed.
