  The arcade pack is fine, if you just want to play single player games like Bioshock, Mass Effect etc etc, then the arcade pack is for you. No online required at all to play those games, at all!

  I will be getting one, I don’t need ‘points’ on ‘live’ for any reason what so ever. I would prefer a PS3 but I just can’t afford 700 bucks!

If there were actually games worth buying on the PS3 you’d be covering that than writing junk talking down the 360. 360 price £129.99 with gears of war 2 what more do you need.   This would be a good argument if it was true. If I wanted to play Gears of war 2 on a xbox the I would have to pay £100 for the console and £35 for Gears. Thats it nothing else. This is Sony’s problem they think they are competeing for a all singing all dancing home hub. This is why they have dropped the ball and forgot that they have a “games console”. Also the only thing I have to pay for on top of my console is Live, which is sooooo much better than PSN, so it is worth the extra £30 an YEAR. Just live with the fact the PS3 is tooooo expensive and noboby uses all the things it has because they never turn it on because still after over 2 years there is still no games, sad to be honest…

  As an Australian gamer, I have to admit that this is completely true, and it’s surprising that few people realise it.

  I will admit, I do not know what pricing is like in the UK, so it may be completely different over there, but Australian gamers are constantly getting the shaft when it comes to prices (ie. having brand new games constantly retailing at over AU$100 when they are selling for US$60, even when the two dollars were reaching parity).

  When I bought my console, I did want wireless connectivity, decent sized hard-drive, and online playability, and did calculate the 360 to be roughly similar in price to the PS3 (although at the end of the day I based my choice on the games available on the system).

  Although people will see this article as being filled with Sony fanboyism (there is a little admittedly), it is relevant to people who are looking to buy a console.

  Also, to tell you the truth, I think it would make a decent Sony advertising campaign.

  This is a real bad argument. Firstly if those with arcade want a hard drive, all they do is register with Microsoft and its £30. Secondly. not everyone uses xbox live. You don’t need to have rechargeable batteries ether . So basally, every cost you have added to the 360 can be taken away. So before you post fanboy tripe again, think.

  hell i thought this argument dies eons ago. the sad fact is that there is not one console out there that does everything.which is why i have wii, 360, ps3 and ps2. oh and a ds. wii is to keep wife happy. 360 is so i can legally shoot terrorists lol. and ps3 is for blue ray and upscaling films. now lets look at those games. xbox ive had loads of games. ps3 i have erm… ang on erm 4 maybe? if i dont need to play online then i go for ps3 ie oblivion n the like. sad fact is xbox has the biggest and best online gaming. played fall of man online once.yep just the once. i dont think 40 pound a year is excessive for the service provided

We have little big planet something new fun and innovative.   oh just read an update. this is for chirs and prince though more for chris as i think prince might have a dyslexia problem. my xbox is hardwired to a hub underneath the tv. my ps3 was wireless into the router. it aint anymore lol. wireless is great if you cant get the console near the router, but hardwired is better for reliability and speed. erm dont know about hidef? hmmmm seems you might want to look at the boxes on the back of the games, you know the ones on the xbox that read 720p,1080i,1080p. most of the ones on the ps3 are harder to spot as they only read 720p lol. an before prince trys to get a grownup to string a sentence together for him, i think we should not encourage him with anymore replies ‘0)

  Have you even been on PSN? I have had my PS3 nearly a year and I havent had a single problem. and I no doubt xbox live is a good service as it should be cos you have to fork out for it every year.

  And incase you havent heard xbox fanboys, PS3 is beating the xbox in sales at this time . And upto now the ps3 has sold 17 million units the xbox has sold 5 million more and theyve had a year head start I think sony can easily match that and beat it within a year.

  All in all both good consoles the only reason id buy an xbox is because some of my friends have got them but after buying a 1080p 100hrz panasonic tv im not gona get an xbox to ruin the set up because its clearly not cutting edge and I have a PC so why would a need another one in the shape of a console.

  My wii ruins the look of my set up aswell gona have to get rid of that.

  Prince, Are you still that bitter about your PS3, Thats a shame, all the games you mentioned have been a flop ( FF Versus XIII, will be when its released), and the reason they are not good games for “Real Gamers”, who wants a 2D sideways scroller, when you can have Gears, Motorstorm has sink without a trace, Soccom is only in the charts because they are giving away a headset, Res2 will be a poor mans Gears. And just to clarify wireless is crap for online play, it maybe good for PSN as it is slow anyway but for Live and PC gaming it is toooooo slow.

  Shall we try and be a bit more balanced in our price comparisson? Lets stick with Australian prices:
  Xbox 360 60gb - $399
  Wireless bridge - $100
  12 month xbl gold - $79 (although I have found it for as little as $71)
  AA battery charger and 2 NiMH batteries - $35
  Bluray player (with bitstream output)- $400
  Total - $1013 if you want blu ray, 613 if you don’t. Drop another $100 off that price if you don’t need wireless.
  Now compare that to:
  PS3 80gb - $699
  PS2 (for backward compatability) - $189
  Bluetooth Headset - $40
  Bluetooth remote - $50
  Total - $978 if you want backward compatability, $789 if you don’t. knock $50 off that if you are not fussed about using a proper remote control.
  If you want an all singing all dancing media and games system, then the PS3 is about $40 cheaper. However if you want to use the faster wireless N now coming onto the market- forget about it with the ps3. Want to use a univeral remote control? forget about it with the ps3. Want bitstream output (not PCM) of DD TrueHD or DTS HDMA? Again nada.
  My point is that the PS3 is a fantastic jack-of-all-trades, but as technology progreesses it will fall further behind. The 360 (or wii for that matter) route will allow for greater flexibility and customisation of your hardware, allowing you to add things if and when you want it.

  Sony HAS conned you (or paid you for this advertisement). They got you to believe you savemoney by spending more money upfront. I know you will just brush it off as M$ marketing-speak, but we still have the choice not to pick up a wireless adaptor and avoid the trap that is blu-ray.

  I’m inclined to believe R: this is more Sony-branded marketing. It always follows the same patterns: lists of games the Ps3 “has”, biased price comparisons, and convenient ignorance of the truth of the competition.

  And the truth is, you can buy a 360 with a memory card and probably a few free games for 200USD. While everyone else is halfway to PS3 ownership in any form, you are already gaming. 360 owners can then pick and choose what to get. And Blu-ray doesn’t figure into it, in any way.

  Numbers don’t lie. Unless they are your numbers.

The games suck, the graphics are inferior to the 360’s BY FAR. 90% of multi-platform games look and play better on the 360 than the PS3.   I own all the consoles. I bought my xbox elite first. We bought my son a Wii for his birthday. My wife bought me the 80 GB MGS PS3 bundle for my birthday. I have plenty of games for all the systems, so I don’t feel that there is a lack of media for any of these consoles. Honestly if a game has a multiplayer option I prefer to get it on 360 because more of my friends have xboxes. Otherwise I go with the ps3 version. If you put the games aside, my love goes with the ps3. I video chat with my brother-in-law, stream all my media on my pc via TVersity and I use “folding at home” when I charge my controllers. There are tons of themes available for free online. I can, if I needed to, upgrade the hard drive to whatever I like. The new web browser works great and its really fast.
  I have a HD-DVD drive connected to the xbox. Have you tried finding HD-DVD in the store. After the disc format war ended I went to a local retailer to see if I could scoop up HD-DVD on the cheap. The clerk feed me some bullshit about how HD-DVD was going to be supported till the end of the year. Therefore they would not be reducing the price of HD-DVD. The next time I walked in the store there were no HD-DVD’s. I’m sure movie studios would rather incinerate those HD-DVD’s instead of selling them at a reduced price. After all, they could just put them out on bluray and charge the regular retail price. Now I did buy one add-on for the ps3. It’s some device from madcatz that givies me an additional HDMI port, my tv only has 2 and I wanted the xbox, ps3 and my HD satellite receiver connected. This device made it possible to control my ps3 with my logitech universal remote, as it has an inferred sensor on it. My one and only complaint about my ps3 is that it didn’t come with a HDMI cable, where as my xbox elite did. My DVD player had come with one so I didn’t need to buy another so I’m not out any extra cash, but not everyone has an extra HDMI cable out there. I think if Sony really wants to push its quality level, they should include HDMI cables in their highest tier console. Just my rant. Thanks.

  This one always makes me laugh.
  The only reason to buy the arcade model is if you are not interested or don’t have a broadband connection, there are no hidden costs, it’s a low entry model for those who don’t require a hardrive as they wont be downloading anything.
  I bought a battery charger with 4 rechargable batteries for £8 in Tesco, nobody buys the official charger unless they are stupid, just like nodody bought the overpriced official HDMI lead from Sony unless they were stupid.
  Most of us already have wired routers connected to our P.C.s, i wont use wifi for many reasons so for most of us it’s not a issue but even those who want wifi have much cheaper options than what’s been mentioned.
  Then there is the lack of headset for PS3 + controllers that rumble (i know, that’s so last gen) but the bit that really makes me laugh is none of this really matters, because even if i had payed as much for my console as you I DON’T CARE, i’m happy with my choice and i don’t need to jusify my purchase to anyone.
  If you on the other hand need to make silly price comparisons by adding all the things we don’t all need and at the most expensive option, intead of discussing all those great exclusive games that are going to kill the opposition, like LBP that only managed to make no4 in the charts after having a couple of extra days longer than Gears 2 at no1, then i can only deduce that you are feeling inadequate about your choice of console.

  SOCOM
  Far Cry 2
  LBP
  Resistance 2
  Motorstorm Pacific Rift.

  Now 4/5 of those games are only available on the PS3, what games have you bought that I can’t get besides Fable 2 and Gears 2?

  All of those prices are way inflated though. Arcade is $199 +you can even get 120 gb harddrive for 70 bucks off ebay. $269.99 Charge station $20 and each wireless controller comes with quick charge kit. So if you want you can say $289.99 then even if you have wireless why would you use it? Internet is soo much faster wired. But you can get wireless if you want it for 50 bucks. $339.99 and then of course the superior xbox live $50= 389.99 for more harddrive and better online play. Only edge ps3 has is blu ray. Oh yeah and if I ain’t mistake all 360s are backwards compatible. The ps3 you have to buy $500 version. Burn! No real claim here but its not as big of a difference as it seems when you see 199.99 and 399.99. But your numbers are way inflated… Both systems rock IMO

  Wow, are you serious? REALLY?

  Throw in the cost of a charger kit for the 360s, but don’t even include it in the PS3’s price? Forget the wireless network adapter too, because not only do a lot of people not have wireless routers, but everyone wants minimal lag. That’s up to $200 removed from all of the price tags you have set up for the 360. And get this, *gasp* it still plays PERFECTLY FINE!

  The problem is that while the PS3’s hardware may be superior, the 360’s still getting much more 2nd party and 3rd party support.

  Rage all you want, PS3 fans, but the fact is that gamers get more of what they actually want with the 360 than the PS3.

  Final Fantasy XIII isn’t even an exclusive anymore. Xbox Live might not be free, but I’ll be damned if it isn’t the best online out of all three consoles.

  Really, people. If you’re going to rip on the 360, at least do it right.

  I can afford a wirless adaptor, I have one in my PC ( Which I don’t use anymore). But this is not the point of this articale. To get back to the basics you don’t need all the bells and whistle to play games on a 360, just a £100 console and the game. All the rest are if you need them which most people don’t. I also have a PS3 which has loads of stuff in it and I don’t use it. I have 3 card readers in it, I have more ports on the back than the USS Enterprise and I don’t use any of them apart from the power and HDMI, but I have paided for all of them, whitch to me is silly. Why don’t we have a cut down PS3 which as the basics. Even the controller has a long life what ever battery. I have 2 re-chargeable batters that cost me £2 and they last hours and rechage is 30mins. So again Sony’s plan is making you buy loads of stuff you don’t need and that is where they will fail, teh PS4 will have more models with a cheap option ( If they make one, which I have heard could just be a PS3 with a better graphics card).

  well, both consoles graphic cards are based off of directx 9 capabilities, so in the end, it’s more just preference, both have their ups and downs. i was kinda salty when i found out about the directx 9 shit, i mean these are suppose to be “next gen” consoles, granted you can get alot out of 9.0 i mean fallout 3 is pretty freaking cool. but that what i read. oh well. dont forget that we play to enjoy games, dont play out of spite! lots of good games on the horizon. (they better stop putting 1080p on the back of the boxes, when they only go to 720p. even fallout 3 did it, that pisses me off.

If you are happy paying all of that money for a 360, then go ahead. I on the other hand will enjoy Free Online Service, Blu-Ray, 1080P output, plug and play controllers, internet browser, Wi-Fi internet, and most importantly… SONY’S FIRST PARTY EXCLUSIVES.

  But if you want to spend more on a console that is inferior, only has two exclusive studios, pay to play your games online…. than be my guest, but I might laugh at you a little. HAHAHAHA.

  who the f*** cares about how many “features” a system has? We pay to PLAY games on a console and good ones at that. Sure, the PS3 has a lot more features off-the-shelf and that explains its price (not to mention the burden of the blu-ray player). Some are very unnecessary and most people don’t need them.

  The point is that IF people NEED it, then they GET it. Not the other way around.

  Sony’s customers are the ones that take it like a bitch, because they bundle unnecessary crap with their console.

  That’s the beauty of the pricing model of the Xbox, because it allows flexibility.

  Money talks and BS walks. These days there is such a thing as throttling. Thats where our internet providers dumb down our transfer rate for SPECIAL CUSTOMERS. Microsofts Xbox live pays hard cash for smooth game play. If the PS3 puts strain on the network… say around dinner time when everyone is home. It gets throttled. Free is not always better but at least your getting your moneys worth. If I should ever have any problems 1 800 4my xbox. I will crap in their ear and demand that they fix it. Try that with your IP or Sony.

  First of all microsoft is all about having it when you need it.

  Ps3:
  Free PSN (really i hear from Ps3 buddies that their online is laggy as ****)(thats what you get for paying nothing)(only in japan do you get laggy free and most japanese users dont play online)
  DLC:
  (microsoft has so much more like netflix, millions of movies and tv shows, music, demos, games, arcade games, themes, pictures, and etc.)(thats where your money is going)
  Blu-Ray:
  (not many people are ready to move up to blu-ray cuz they still use their dvds over blu-rays.)(blu-rays not going to be as popular as dvds this generation)
  thats 700 dollars of stuff you dont need
  I want to play games not movies. I have my laptop or a standalone bluray for that.
  (also you can buy a arcade 360 and a standalone blu-ray player for less than a PS3)

  Xbox 360: “dont pay for the things you dont want”

  monthly fee xbox live: awsome lag free experience. With dashboard updated every few months. Movies, demos, themes, etc added every week.

  blu-ray: you want blu-ray? You can have it either in one or two ways.
  1. through blu-ray equipped laptop or pc. connect with xbox 360 via media center and stream movies through your xbox 360.
  2. buy a stand alone blu-ray player and arcade xbox 360 for less than PS3

  I have got a 360. Poor console! I had the damn thing repaired 2 times and its still got the ‘rings of death’ waste of time and money! Lucky for me, my brothers got ps3 and been working for 2 years now, my 360 only lasted 6 months. As it stands ps3 is a better console but 360 has better games and network in my opinion.

  First of all i hate all this complainging. I personaly like my Ps3. I first picked up a 360 cause it came out first and i wanted to play next gen games. So go halo 2 and then 3 ( i fell for they hype) but those games didnt impress me much. Out of the two Halo 3 was the loser it did not beat halo 2. But like i said i play the the ps3 now. Now like most people who like gadgets, you like to add and build the best system ever. If you take PC’s for example nobody will play games on a normal DELL. You have to invest money to get the best performance. This is the technolological time that we live in. The only thing that gets me up set is the compasison. Look exclusive games are not so exclusive anymore. The only games that really seperate systems are the ones the ones that are made for that system. Games like GTA that came out for bothe can not show a true comparison. The game will be made operational for each system and might be held back a bit because it might work better this way with the cell but then it will lag with the 360. Both systems have nice graphics and they should considering we are paying nore now that we did for the previous generation. The only reason i laid my 360 to rest is 1) i picked up the HD DVD player and then it goes under in 5 moths 2) MS ripps people off big time. Even if on-line is better as you say it is, is the price tag really needed. Add on content ok but paying to play a game you already paid for is just stupid. Now the final thought. The PSN is not ther yet but it will be. Sony has a track recorcrd of giving us what we want. The PS, PS2 and PSP are all examples of good systems with relpay valuve and imporvment. The PS3 will continue that trend. Microsoft on the other hand has pi$$Ed me off way too often. The original xbox was bad. if the true xbox fan boys can not argue that. aside from bieng the first home console with on-line play and a handfull of good games the system was crap. an oversized heavey as hell eyesore. And what did microsoft do they let it die. Not all the games a backwards compatible for the 360 and they dont make anything for that system anymore. Sony on the other hand will still push tons of PS2’s this holidya season along with some games. the 360 has more games because developers have had thier hands on the dev kits for a longer period of time. When the PS3 catches up (and it wil) then MS will run for the hills to put out another system to try to get an edge. So at that point the 360 will fall off the map as did the original xbox so they can make more money for the hard core pushing the xbox 720 or wathever. so the 360 will have a 5-6 year life span. THen they will will ask hard core gamers to upgrade again and shell out more money. And what do you do with twhat you have already… they dont care. The 360 is a good console but the company backing it sucks. is the 360 better than the PS3?? No becasue the company backing it will do whatever it thake to make it the best. so argue all you want u about how great the 360 is and MS on-line service is but when MS tells you to pull down your pants then dont be surprised when you find a Dic up your a$$.

  Rejoice that there are multiple competing consoles, competition means lower prices and better games. If there was one console we would have less games and higher prices.

  I own both.. and think that the PS3 will have a longer life. The 360 is just a games console after all. However the real winner is the Wii! and its nether next gen or chock full of technology. Still it is also quite expensive when you add up all the extras.

  if you buy a 360 pro, you pretty much HAVE TO pay $50 to play online (unless you want to cut down on experience, and a major one at that) so basically it’s $350 for a pro and i’m only paying $50 more for a ps3 that can do ALL THOSE THINGS that the xbox can’t.

  you guys pay $50 for online and we pay $50 for a wide list of features that the xbox can’t do.

  lol, this is fun shit. well like i said BOTH consloes are based off Direct X 9 CAPABILITES, that’s why the rumor of the PS4 and new 360, is that they want to swap out graphic’s cards, NEITHER console is acutally “next gen” really, they jumped light years in graphic cards from 2004-2006, if you know about directx 10, it will shit on both consoles, and we’re screwed when it comes to “high def” gaming, granted you can get a lot of detail out of directx 9, but nothing like direct 10 is capable of doing, i know for a fact the the shitbox has a unified shader, which lets them find ways of maxing out their games. PS3 has a shit load of power, but still hard to develop for. but in the end, the PC will win in “true high def” if you dont beleive me, see what the diferences between directx 9 & 10. i’m happy with my ps3, i’m hooked on Fallout 3, i think it looks amazing.   very true Dave, i got into high end pc gaming for a while but it’s just pain to keep up with and every few months they release a new graphics card that doubles the one you just bought. so i’m done with pc gaming. i do have a nice machine that’s setup to my hdtv, which is a nice feature, why have a 22inch when you can have a 47 inch. some games are pretty cool on pc and look amazing, like Assasins Creed, it destroys the console versions with higher anti-aliasing setting and all that jazz. but you spend most of your time tweaking shit then playing. but yea, its just a pc multimeda center. all my gaming is done on PS3, having a headset, ps3 store is the shit. i use to be a ps3 fanboy trying to push my thoughts on 360 people, but its such a waste of time. time will tell which one makes it the longest, my $ is on the PS3, simply for blu-ray games, and power, but you got admidt they shitbox has held in there and even beat the ps3 in the last 2 years in 1080p games a less bugs in there games, but they did have a year head start, hat’s off to 360, but i might get the next 360, since microsoft pretty much invented game platforms in the first place, they do know what they are doing as much as i hate to say that, lol

  @Edge – That’s not exactly true. When the new Xbot Live Experience launches, those with the arcade model will need to purchase a hard drive. Which conveniently needs to be an Official Xbot hard drive. It would be nice if they gave consumes choice… like a universal 2.5” hard drive, like the PS3s. Instead they are forcing you to buy an over priced add-on. I like the fact that my console of choice is superior in everyway. If I had the choice to loose any of the features, I wouldn’t.

  If anyone ever payed attention I never said i hate the 360 or that it sucks. I just cant stand when all its little followers claim that its better than the PS3. You all know your full of crap. MS as acompany is crap. All that crap that they keep feeding you. Our system is superior and at a modest price. Oh but wait your gonna need this and this and this but thats extra. The company is giving you all a the shaft and you praise them for it. The PS3 is a great system with a great company backing it. And of the 2 systems, the PS3 has those extra features that will allow it to keep up whith all the growing technology. Sony allows you to get add on’s how you want to. Xbox says the only add on’s you can get are the ones we make. that to me is bull. MS makes bad desions period and it will be very obviuos to all the 360 fans soon enough. Perfect example was the HDDVD add on. Luckly that did not affect the gaming aspect but soon it will my sad little bots soon it will.

As I have said before, DVD or Bluray in gaming has nothing to do with HD, they simply mean one can store more information than the other. The end result is identical in both cases. The PC pisses all over the PS3 when it comes to performance, yet it only uses DVDs. Bang goes your argument there. Wireless adapters are a poor alternative to wired connections for online play. They were designed to allow you to move around the house without trailing a cable. So stop trying to convince every one that the 360 is lacking because it hasn’t built one in. What are you going to do once wireless N becomes standard? The you will be stuck with your outdated transfer rates whilst 360 owners can simply upgrade their adapters if they want to. suddenly the ps3 doesn’t seem so progressive, eh? The 360 uses wireless controllers too btw, and is still backward compatible, unlike the glorious PS3. Oh and the new dashboard for the 360 only requires a memorystick 256mb or larger, plus they have implemented a discount scheme for purchasers wanting more than that.
  In the meantime Sony are having a fight on their had trying to defend their money loosing PS3 to their shareholders, letalone convince them to back as PS4. Get used to it guys (and gals) the era of a single dominant format is over, and Sony have managed to go from king of the hill to last place. Congrats, no wonder you are so bitter.

  Hey Brad, have you been to a best buy, walmart, about any place that sells movies lately? they had 2 long ass rows of blu ray, all new movies like the dark knight, and all of them getting released, so you cant tell me blu ray isnt taking off because it all ready has dude, i seen it jump from 1/2 a shlef to 4 times the size in 6mo. it will be the next DVD format. in fact it already is. i agree dvd might not be going anywhere soon. but blu ray is here to stay bro. check your local best buy or movie place and tell me different.

  It took it longer and it took politics to get rid of HDDVD for it to do it though. It isn’t going anywhere I didn’t say that but DVD will be here forever because the difference isn’t like VHS to DVD. Everything released on DVD and the difference hardly ever justifies spending an extra 20-25 bucks for a blu ray since you can get DVD movies for about 10-15 bucks but Blu Ray runs from 20 to 45 usually. That is ridiculous…

  blu ray’s are a bit high in price now, but the highest i’ve seen them at best is like 29.00 bucks. most are droping to the 20-25 dollar range. but i buy all the major movies on blu ray, the quality, (only if you have an HDTV) in opinion is the worth every penny. but thats just me, i still buy reg dvd’s but for the best movies, blu ray is the only way to go for truly “next gen” 1080p quality.

  Yeah I got HDTV but Blu Ray is only justifiable in action movies. Anything else is a waste. And then if you consider that ps3 upconverts the regular DVDS its impossible to justify most movies in my opinion. Your movies like the Dark Knight, Spider man, Tranformer, etc are exceptions.

  Well I don’t think that is what killed HD-DVD. It had nothing to do with the games. What killed HD-DVD was Sony bargaining with all the top film makers and getting them to back Blu Ray. When that happened and Toshiba had to give up support for it. That is when HD-DVD died. But I do agree PS3 games on Blu Ray could be awesome if they ever actually use the 50gb of space. There is nothing that has been made yet that can’t be done on 9 gbs though…

  MG4 i guess took almost the whole blu-ray disk from what i read. but i there was over an hour of just cut scenes too. all im saying if the 360 designed their games on the HD DVD format, there would have been no way of disconinuing it. therefore the war would still be going on

  I knew you would go there. Uncompressed audio and try more like 13 hours of cutscenes. I couldn’t really enjoy the game because all the long 30 minute cutscenes. It was terrible to me. Don’t get mad fans it’s just my opinion. I own it but I think it could have had less cutscenes and more gaming action.. Uncompressed audio is a big part of why it took up soo much space. I get your point though but compressing the audio and turning it into a game instead of a movie sim would allow it to fit on 360. But just because games are made on the format doesn’t mean movies would have to. Your mixing movies with games. They don’t really mix. Just because games would be made on HD-DVD doesn’t mean movies would have survived because the “big” movie makers all decided to support blu ray. Probably with a check from SONY…

  Time will tell. It may get them for the fact that they can’t expand any further but the PS3 can if developers so chose.. Developers need to learn how to utilize the PS3 above and beyond. The problem is development cycles are so short its hard to make a game that is any bigger than 9gb. Eventually PS3 will be properly developed for.

  I recon it will be at least 2 years before most developers will need to expand significantly beyond the single dvd format. Gears of war 2 and GTA4 still only use 6.7GB, Fable 2 needs 6.8GB and Bioshock needs 6.1GB. This shows there is still plenty of capacity in a dual layer DVD. The next step would then be multiple DVDs, which is only really becomes a problem with large, free-roaming games like GTA4. Has anybody stuck a PS3 exclusive title in a PC and established how much of the BluRay is actually used? I bet the vast majority would happily fit on to one or two DVDs. Look how long it took for DVD to replace CD as the standard format in PC gaming.
  Come the day when DVD really doesn’t suffice, the 360 could then either resort to HDD installs like the PS3 does now or simply run the game off a 32GB USB memory stick. At which point the next xbox will be on the horizon anyway.

  @Brad: Do you still listen to records, or 8-tracks, or watch beta-max? Blu-Ray has already won the HD format war. It’s superior to DVD for both audio and visual in every possible way. Also the producers of Gear have already stated that they pushed the DVD-9 format to the max with Gears 2. It is a great game, but that is the pinnacle of what can be done on the 360. Meanwhile if it were done properly on Blu-ray, there would be space to make improvements across the board.

  I do not think Blu-ray or the Cell Processor has reached its full potential yet. We have gotten a glimpse of what can be done with MGS 4 and the title was released in the PS3s infancy. The next few years will be very exciting.

  just to clarify the dispute over wireless and wired connections. I have a PS3 and 2 pc’s. One of the PCs is wired, second is wireless and the PS3 is wireless.

  Here’s the turnout:

  My wired PC gives me about 320kbs/s

  Wireless pc even though much closer to the router gets a crappy 120kbs/s (i shelled out 200 US dollars for the router and wireless card each so this isn’t cheap stuff)

  And the PS3 which is furthest away from the router gets around 610kbs/s average which is about 2 times better than my wired PC

  And as for the Xbox 360 my friend had a wired connection and he hated it because he needed a 100ft ethernet cord to connect it from his router to his xbox (it’s on the other side of the house). His mom completely destroyed it while vacuuming because the wire got chewed up by the vac. So he got the wireless and he has no complaints about lag or being slower (he has an xbox elite btw).

  And for those arguing about the xbox just needing an addon for the wireless N connection Sony could make a wireless N addon just as easily as M$. Though by the time wireless N becomes a standard I suppose the next generation of consoles will be out and wireless N might very well be a standard in the PS4 for all I know.

  And I agree with you Barnabee Jones. The Blu-ray and Cell processor have not reached their full potential as I have read several times on the internet. The developers need to adjust to the PS3 and find ways to access the full potential because the Cell is a completely different architecture than the devs are used to, granted they’ve been developing for xbox and ps2 for so long its been a while since they had to try something different.

  Ok well I didn’t get the news. My bad. But MGS4 was made out of ps3 infancy. It was just this past summer man. What I am saying is dvd to blu ray is more of a giant leap with games but not with movies. Yes its better but it ain’t worth 30 bucks for a movie when you can get it for 10 then upconvert does wonders. I don’t care either way foreal. I just know the PS3 probably won’t ever see its full potential because developers won’t learn it quick enough. The games have been equal to 360 since maybe May though. Before that they were just bad.   It was all in strategy why the ps2 is still going strong. It’s a cheap alternative to next gen gaming. I had bad experiences with that system too. 3 broken ps2s guess it was just bad luck had the red screen disc can’t read. But no problems with xbox or 360 yet and the PS3 is nice. I like both. But the reason the regular xbox isn’t still selling is because Microsoft smartly got into the next gen more than a year ahead of Sony and focused all of their attention on the 360 too bad the RROD thing hampered things for them. I never experienced it so whatever. But thats why PS3 is going to have a hard time catching the 360 in install base. Mostly because the price point. Also Ps3 will probably never catch them in software to hardware attach rate because a lot of people just use it for blu ray and occasional gaming. I know about 5 people like that. I use it for everything I love it but just saying what seems to be apparent..
